Materials and product surfaces with sterions have the effect that

  • The settling and transmission of germs is reduced
  • Nosocomial infections are decreased
  • The rest risk of cleaning is reduced
  • Resistances are avoided

a) Bio-implants

Due to the warm, humid environment of the body a bio-film develops along the surface of implants, the effects of the bacteria of which are toxic to the organism. Particularly amongst the ill, elderly people and children this may result in death due to the low levels of the body's defences. Latest studies showed that the number of infections in Europe due to unclean bio-implants amounted to 1.750.000 people. With implants that are coated with sterions these infections do not develop in the first place.

 

b) Endoscopy

Endoscopes are sterilised after operations. Unfortunately, this process is not always reliable so that due to the continued use of the endoscopes germs may be transferred from one patient to the next. With endoscopes that are coated with sterions the germs are destroyed immediately.
